UNFORTUNATELY, WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY OFFERING THIS TOUR.

The Sahara lifestyle and the journey to experience it are all part of this 2 day / 1 night desert tour. It is by far the most popular excursion from Marrakech.  A breathtaking, full day's journey from Marrakech straight through the High Atlas mountains puts you in a Sahara desert village where you will see and taste the authentic desert Berber lifestyle. Once you pass through Zagora, you will continue on to the desert village.  From there, your journey continues with a short camel ride as you watch the sun set in the desert!

The 2 day / 1 night tour give you a chance to see small dunes, and experience the Berber landscape. You will overnight in a Berber tent and return to Marrakech the next day.  You will leave from Marrakech early on the first morning and return late on the second day.  The trip each way is about 8 hours.

You have the option of a basic, group tour or a private tour.  The 2 day / 1 night group tour will allow you to meet other tourists in Marrakech and then go together to make the trip affordable. For both the private and group tours, the Berber guides are polite and kind. The tents are traditional and the overnight is basically a glorified Berber camping experience - yet, one that you will remember for a lifetime. After dark, the stars will be brighter than perhaps you have ever seen before.  Note: To see larger sand dunes located close to the village of M'hamid, you will have to take the 3 day / 2 night Desert Marathon Adventurer tour.

2) Private Adventurer Dune Experience! Private tour: 115 Euros per person: 2 days and one night in a Berber tent just outside Zagora. Includes dinner and breakfast in the desert with a Berber guide, (lunch during the trip not included), camel, and private tent accommodations. You will not go with a group.

Budget Zagora Desert Tour

By Kersten | Group of Friends

8.2

Of all of the sights and activities I did while in Morocco, I will say that this was the most adventurous and exciting event of my trip. Many people do not get the opportunity to ride a camel within the Saharan Desert and I am glad that I was able to have that opportunity. I traveled with a group of friends and we had a blast riding the camels together and taking pictures of the countryside. The ride itself is a little uncomfortable for those not used to riding, but the experience and pictures taken were worth being slightly uncomfortable. The Berbers who ran the tour were very kind and accommodating to our needs. They even performed some traditional music and dancing for us after our traditional Berber meal. The sleeping accommodations were similar to an overnight camping trip, but we knew this was the budget tour and that we were not going to be staying in the lap of luxury. If I was presented the opportunity to go on this tour again I would jump at the chance.

Zagora Budget Adventure

7.3

I went on the Zagora Budget Adventure with a group of friends. Most of us had never ridden a camel before, but we were excited to experience something new. I enjoyed the different scenery on the van ride to Zagora. I saw mountains, valleys and plains. Some of the places we stopped along the way, I felt like they were post-card pictures. We made several stops which was nice for photos and if someone needed the bathroom. The van took us to the area where we started our camel excursion. The camel ride was a lot longer than I thought, but it was not too bad. On the camel, there were a lot of blankets, so riding the camel which was very nice. We arrived at our destination at sunset. The sunset was beautiful full with red, purple and orange colors. The tent fits about twelve people, and we got to know other people. We ate dinner cooked by the Berbers and drank tea with them in our tent. It was really good food. Later the Berbers invited us to go listen to them in another tent. The Berbers did not use normal instruments but used plates and plastic cartons. The next morning, we were woken by the Berbers, and they brought breakfast. The breakfast was bread mostly with drinks like tea, milk and coffee. We packed our stuff and headed back on the camels. I was in the front of one line of camels and my camel liked to talk. The route was different, but enjoyable to see. Overall, I really had a fun time on the Zagora tour. I did not have the luxury of toilets and showers, but the tour is worth it. I mean how cool is to say that I rode a camel in the Sahara Desert. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who likes trying new things and going on new adventures.

Zagora Budget Tour

By Bobby | Group of Friends

6.4

The budget dune tour was lots of fun. We took a bus to the desert with about 12 people total. It was about 8 hours to get there, winding through the High Atlas Mountains and stopping in multiple villages on the way (Including Ourzazate, where many desert movies are filmed). A little out side of the city of Zagora, we met with the camels and berbers (don't be suprised if they look like children). The camel ride was a short 45 min ride, and slightly uncomfortable. I'd recommend asking for extra blankets. The camp was a few tents out in the desert (no toilets). Expect to live the life as a true berber (living in communal tents, practically on the ground, and living by a lantern). The berbers will cook a traditional Moroccan meal with couscous and meat. We even were treated to a social playing of "drums" and singing by the berbers after dinner. Breakfast was a very small meal of tea, coffee, bread and jam. From there, you take the camels back to your bus, and take the same journey back to Marrakech. Overall, besides the comfort, it was a great experience of the Sahara.
